Salford University or London School Of Film, Media and Performance (Regents College)?
-
Hello guys, I have received conditional offers from all my universities and now I need some advice as to choosing my firm and insurance. I have applied to: 1) Bournemouth University (Television Production) 2) Goldsmith (Media and Communications) 3) Aberystwyth (Film Production & Performing Arts) 4) Salford University (Television and Radio) 5) The London School of Film, Media and Performance at Regents College (Film, TV and Digital Media Production). I have decided to make my firm choice Bournemouth, but as for insurance – I am stuck between choosing Salford or LSFMP at Regents College. Here are the pros and cons of both. Salford: Pros – Based at MediaCityUK where the BBC is also based so this may increase my chance of finding work, cost of living essentially cheaper than London. Cons – The course does not offer a placement, the course is particularly focused on just Television and Radio as opposed to a wider spectrum of skills that LSFMP offer in their (Film, TV and Digital Media Production course). I have also heard that Salford isn’t exactly a nice area to live in? LSFMP: Pros – Based in Capital city London (yay!), LSFMP is an independent private school so it offers a personalised approach to education by offering small classes, creating a close relationships among faculty and students. The course offers a work placement. I’ve spoken to the teachers that teach this course and most of them have graduated from Bournemouth. The course offers more skills like film and other types of digital production as opposed to Salford which is just offering TV and Radio. Cons – Being in London, cost of living would be very expensive. --- Furthermore, Salford is asking for two grades B’s at A level whereas LSFMP are asking for two C’s. I’m keeping in mind how the production work on these courses is undertaken in groups, and so I will be dependant on the co-operation of my fellow students to achieve the best results. So I THINK that the calibre of students on the courses could be dictated to a considerable degree by the course entry requirements? So yeah, I’m in two minds as you can see, what would you guys recommend? Which university sounds more promising? Thank you guys! :D

Answer:
Do you understand you will likely be unemployed with this degree, from any of the schools? You future after graduation looks to be a career in Fish & Chips. You need to examine why you feel this compulsion to work in "Performing Arts".

I'm in a similar position apart from I need to chose between Salford Leeds Met & Aberystwyth. I have narrowed it down to Leeds or Salford and the thing you said about it not being very nice is what I've heard but I've spoken to a friend there and he loves it and you are close to Manchester
