My mom wants me to go to community college and transfer?
-
i understand that it's about money, but community college isn't what i want to do. i've always thought of college as being a four-year thing at one college, not two years at community college and two years at a different college. i want this to be my decision, not hers, but she's kind of choosing for me. whenever we talk about college, she always brings up community college and how i could transfer. the reasons i don't want to transfer are 1) i never intended to, and it's just not as appealing to me; 2) i want to spend all four years in one place instead of having to switch because i hate moving around; 3) until i transferred, people would assume i was going to cc because i didn't get in anywhere else (that's just how people are around here); and 4) it's my choice, not hers. in addition to this, i'm not even old enough to start applications, since i'm finishing up my sophomore year in high school. and she never tries to push this on my brother, even though his ideal college costs at least $25,000 a year and mine is only like $9,800 since it's in-state. sure, he's a few years younger than me, but i don't think it's fair that she's only trying to take a normal college experience away from me. she knows that i don't want to go to community college and she's still trying to get me to go. how do i convince her to let me do what i would be happy with?

Answer:
I'm not excactly sure on how you can convince her because that's what my mom wanted me to do so I told her no and now I pay for my whole college (supplies, just attending, EVERYTHING) and I don't really regret it because I can do it so if you have a job and can pay for it you should do the same. And I also live by myself and paying for everything myself it's actually great and she's proud that I could do it

Apply to four year colleges, see where you get in and what financial aid package you get before deciding. You can always sign up at a CC once you graduate HS. Private universities tend to give out more financial aid.
Do you have a plan for how you are going to pay for your more expensive school? The choice is yours, but you can save yourself a lot of debt by starting out at community college. You'll be taking the same classes for a quarter of the cost. Plus, your classes will be taught by qualified instructors, not foreign TAs or auditorium classes with 500 students.
