Is collegeprowler.com a legit scholarship site?

Answer:
Collegeprowler.com is a search engine. It simply matches you with scholarships you can apply to, based on information that you enter into your profile. Most search engines of this type get their info from data banks, so they don't have a lot of control over how legitimate a particular scholarship is--they just let you know that it exists and it's up to you to figure out if it's a scam. However, most search engines like this weed out the more blatant scams based on student complaints. As search engines go, it's ok. I like the college board site better, but that's just me. (www. collegeboard, org) Like all these companies, they get their income from schools and companies that pay for advertising and often it's from scummy online diploma mills. So, before you use a site like this make sure your firewall and spam filters are working, or your inbox will be flooded with junk. If you're new to the scholarship hunting game, it pays to do some research about putting together a good strategy that can improve your chances of winning. There are a number of books you can read. A good one is "How to Go to College Almost for Free" by Ben Kaplan. He also has a website you can look at: www.ScholarshipCoach.com. I also like "Pay for College Without Sacrificing Your Retirement" by Tim Higgins. This book is more about how to choose a college and maximizing you eligibility for aid, but these are important too, because they reduce your need for scholarships. Good Luck

Hello! College Prowler is not just a search engine site. We provide more than 407,000 student reviews on more than 7,700 schools. While we do provide information on scholarships (in addition to our own scholarships), the company’s goal is to help students find the best educational fit for them in terms of school selection. We’re by students, for students. Also, the scholarship information we provide can be tailored to student interests, whether it’s by major or sports. Hope that helps!
