Whats The Best Diesel Exhaust?

Can a diesel engine run on its own exhaust?

  • Can a desiel engine run on its own exhaust. using desiel fuel too. because i heard desiel engines dont need oxygen just the air. so my question is can you hook the exhaust to the intake so it doesnt produce as much emissions? if no can you explain why this wont work? I was thinking of giving it a small breather tube so it isnt completely exhaust but mainly its exhaust and the fuel too

  • Answer:

Don't know who told you this, but it's pure BS! Diesel engines do not need spark plugs to ignite the fuel/air mixture inside the cylinder, but they still need oxygen from the air to burn the fuel.

Minor misunderstanding - A diesel engine needs air to run because the air contains the oxygen it needs to burn the fuel. In this case, air = oxygen.

All engines need fuel, oxygen, and ignition. In a diesel the ignition is provided by heat and compression in place of a spark plug on a gas motor. The oxygen is in the air and diesel is the fuel. If you tried to recirculate the exhaust the engine would not run because of the lack of oxygen. When the engine fires a reaction occurs and most the oxygen and fuel is combusted resulting in exhaust gasses like CO2 and carbon-monoxide.
