What are some really good prompts for a story?

    Hey *How* to come up with ideas: * Come up with titles - play around with day's of the week, names, months, seasons, objects - e.g. 'The Box' or 'It Started on Monday' * Listen to music - pick out phrases - e.g. I was listening to Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen - what about the line 'Mama, I just killed a man'? * Think about characters - a wacky man who uses a cane, but has no need for it, wears a orange coat and a purple hat and takes life with a massive smile, but just finds out he's going to die - or vice verca, he was a very upset man, but learns more about life when he only has a few days left * Plan - come up with a genre, e.g. romance, and then come up with a theme, e.g. hate to love, and then with an idea e.g. someone finding your journal and reading it and then a conflict e.g. you are sworn to secrecy not to tell anyone about the government special activities. * Opening lines - play around with them and explore characters and situations it could lead to, e.g. 'He threw the phone across the room.' Look at some old black and white family photos at relatives you never knew and try to imagine what there life was like. Was he a wife beater or a drunk? How many children did she have? Were they happy etc. Then try to imagine what they did immediately after the photo was taken and then imagine yourself being able to get into the photograph and experience those times first hand - let your imagination run riot as there are no rules for this sort of story. Hey :) It depends on what story you want to write. I a few ideas for you :) fantasy: 1. A girl/boy realises they have supernatural powers and is forced to act normal. 2.Someone stumbles upon a hidden world underneath the earth and is trying to figure out how it got there or something like that? 3.People are after the main character in your story due to magic/supernatural powers and is forced to battle to save their Life? Action: 1: An evil Villain is planning on taking over the world and only your character is the person to stop them. 2: A huge rebellion has broke out in the city and its down to you and your friends to fight and stop this once and for all. Comedy: 1: You could write about a girl or boy whos just started a new school and is considered stupid to the other kids and you want to prove them wrong. ( sort of similar to diary of a wimpy kid if you know what i mean?" 2: You could do a story about a teenager girl who lives with 2 little brothers and 1 little sister and they really annoy her with gross kids stuff? ( farting, burping, nose picking e.g) and she finally sorts them out in the end. 3. you could also do a story where your character is walking in the words and gets rampaged by squirrels. and the character is literally trying to beat them up so they'd get off her/him. ( Aha sorry bout this one it just came to mind.) Mystery: 1: Your main character's sistser/brother gets kidnapped and its up to you to try and find them. Also to find out how and why they were taken? 2: Your main character's dad has been murdered and as again its up to you and maybe allys to try and discover what happened since the police gave up the investigation years ago. and finally you could do a mash up of the above ^^ 1: Your main character's dad/mum has been murdered and its up to you to find them. But before they died they've been keeping serious secrets away from you. Till you realised you have magic powers and people may be after to kill you as well. you can also turn this into a comedy if you like. she/he could say " So let me get this clear. Im not normal im acturally a magical power shooting freak?!?" 2: Your main character has stumbled upon a new world underneath the earth. but your character realises this isnt by mistake, its by fate. Theres a rebellion being casued in this world and only you can stop it. But unfortunately you found this world with your little brothers and sisters so you have to learn to work together. I dont know if its a long or short story so I gave you kinda each? Sorry for all the writing lol Hope this helps!
