How can I meet people that don't like to drink and go out to bars?

  • I can be social, but I do prefer to spend time alone or with people that are similar to me. I noticed that any time someone introduces themselves to me, and I do like them as people, it turns out the friendship can't really go anywhere because they do activities that do not interest me. It's hard to relate to them because they like to go out a lot, meet a lot of people, drink, go to bars, clubs, do everything together always, and thats just not me at all. I have tried to conform to that type of social engineering and it just made me very miserable because I felt like I couldn't be myself without being judged. So.. how can I, as an introvert (not shy) meet people...? Meet people like me? The only time I meet people like me is on forums but I need real-life interaction. Where can I meet people like this? I can't meet them in class either because they all like to do drugs, party, and basic stuff I am not into.

    There's a lot you can do. Do you belong to a church, temple, synagogue? Meet some people there that may have lifestyles or likes similar to your own. More of a secular person? How about checking out craigslist? There are a lot of people on there who are just looking for friends... some of them are new to an area and are seeking new contacts. Still stumped? Volunteer somewhere, join a local sports league, find an activity in your area... there are plenty of them around, and see if anyone there wants to chill out. Not everyone likes to drink and party although it may not seem like it. They're out there.

Volunteering is going to be your best bet. Call the local salvation army or red cross. This way, the shyness can be put on the back burner because you will be busy working, it won't be your main focus. This will then open the door for you to begin new relationships. It's a win win situation because you will have helped yourself by helping others.
