Some years ago there was a shampoo on the market designed to make the white on a horse really POP! It was called Quick Silver. It was a bright, bright purple since it had bluing in it to get the white markings really white. I used to use it all the time on my Paints before a show. The white would almost have a sparkle to it - it was that white! Amazing stuff! Anyway, if it's still out there, that would be my pick. As for shedding, use a rubber curry mitt first, then after bathing go over him with a good shedding blade.

Use baby powder to whiten his legs! Also, I saw some people at my barn putting this weird kind of spray stuff .. I think it was meant for horses tho. It worked so well!! Go to your tack shop and ask if they have anything for whitening your horse! Good luck!

Give him a really good bath, cleaning his legs, under his belly, his mane and tail and sponge off his face. Rinse the area under his tail and his hooves. If he has white in his tail, use Ivory dish soap - it works WONDERS and costs a fraction of what horse whitening shampoo costs. You could also use it on his coat. Clean his ankles and use a shedding blade on his coat. Then, using a hard rubber curry, scrub his entire body in circular motions. Make sure to get the top of his hindquarters, his legs and under his belly. Then, if you have time, take a softer brush and brush his whole body with short, swift sweeps. If you go over each area enough, it will remove any extra hairs and dandruff. As a bonus, it will make him super-shiny, too! Speaking of which, if you use Cowboy Magic Super Body Shine, rub it in with a rough cloth, re-apply the Super Body Shine and then brush it in, he will be positively radiant! That's what I do to my horse each day, and especially before shows, and he certainly is an eye-catcher. Really clean the roots of his mane and the part of his tail closest to the bone. Those areas collect dirt and grease, and they get itchy and uncomfortable for the horse.

Um, just bathe him really thoroughly and well and try to keep him as clean as possible. You could also use that purple-color bleach shampoo (it's meant for horses with light skin). I have a Palomino pony and if his tail or main is dirty, I bleach it! It looks great! Also, if you wash your horse the night before a show or the morning of (before you actually show), throw a show sheet on your horse to keep him clean! Shedding... Rub your horse down with a curry comb perhaps? Hope this helps!:)

QuicSilver is your friend. Invest in a bottle and you'll never have to worry about keeping his white areas clean again. It's about $10/bottle and it'll come out dark purple--it'll leave him sparkly white after you rinse him. You can't make a horse shed any faster than nature intended overnight--keeping them under lights and grooming them daily helps, but you need to start that weeks or months in advance. You can't do it all the day before. It's the beginning of the show season--don't worry if he's still fuzzy.
