Trumpet mouthpiece help?

Trumpet Mouthpiece Help?!?

  • I currently use a Bach 3C and am looking for a new mouthpiece.... Right now I'm trying to decide between a 1CW, 1B, and a 1D. I would just like a little more detail or clarification on these mouthpieces as to what they help and don't help. I am looking for the best among the 3 for the best upper register and endurance.

  • Answer:

That would be the 3C you're already playing. The larger diameter "1" mouthpieces would probably reduce your endurance in all registers. The 3C is a particularly shallow mouthpiece, more akin to a normal D cup than a C cup. Trumpet mouthpieces are not a buy this to do that sort of item. Embouchure strength, playing style, lip size, enderlying dentation--these are all things that need to be considered before buying a mouthpiece. That being said, I would suggest you try a 5C or 5D before you buy anything. In fact always tray a mouthpiece before you buy it--and always buy the one that does what you want it to do. Not the one that someone else likes.
