How do I become a receptionist with no work experience?

• I want to work at a office as a receptionist part time/casual. There are so many available jobs but ALL want someone with similar job experiences, not just any job but experience in the same field. I have very good communication skills, organisation and can maintain good appearance for more 'formal' jobs. Don't bother mentioning volunteer work cause I already tried, looked for ages and nothing that can help me. On the job advertising they say if you have experience, good communication skills etc apply now. It seems a bit silly to apply when I haven't got the skills they need. How can I get a receptionist job when non are going to give me the opportunity? :(

  It is very difficult to secure employment without prior experience, especially in today's poor job market. Contact one of your local employment agencies.....talk with them about your issues; and about the possibility of taking on some temp receptionist jobs as a starting point. The reason employers want experience is so they can secure references from previous employers (managers/supervisors); and to feel confident you can actually do the job and they won't have to stand over you all day making sure you're doing the work, and doing it correctly.
