Is it possible to earn a living by doing iPhone (iOS) programming ?

I know how to program in objective - c . Now am learning the cocoa touch framework but I still think am too far away from making my own application. Am I? How long will it take to be a good programmer. Also is it possible to make a living and a bit more out of it, I mean is it worth the pain?
