Why does the PS3 lag so much?

Why is my ps3 freezing at startup and sometimes lag at the xmb?

  • It suddenly started happening just a few minutes ago. My ps3 slim freezes when I put in a movie and play it. It goes black and I would have to hold the power button for 10+ seconds for it to turn off. Then at startup, it freezes before I could log in to an account 2-3 times. I waited a bit and it let me log in. I put a new dvd in and waited a bit before trying to press play. Then the ps3 got laggy and when I pressed the home button on the ps3 controller to turn it off, it blacked out and freezes. It hasn't been a year yet and this is my second ps3 0_o
