How long does hotmail account stay active?

Help! Hotmail account blocked.?

This account is over 8 years old and I had some extremely important contacts in there, I have also recently been waiting on an important email from the college I have just applied for. It says here that all of my account settings have been cleared, I'm assuming this means everything. All emails, contacts etc. If so, why was I not given a warning?! If it is so easy for me to recover this account then why couldn't they have warned me in some way that not only was I blocked but everything is going to be wiped. I also states here that I can recover my account easily. There's a problem with that too. The way to recover the account is to send a code to an alternative account. However, as stated previously, this is an account I have had for years. This is the address they gave me em*****@hotmail.co.uk. Not only do I have no idea what this account is, I have no memory of making it or what the password could possibly be. I understand that I should have been more careful and kept my information up-to-date, but I didn't. I need some help. The Hotmail customer service is a load of rubbish and very unhelpful. Please if anyone has a solution let me know. Also if you are experiencing anything similar, share your story. Apologies that this is so long and it's a bit messy and thanks in advance for your help.
