Intense Internal Burning Foot Pain?

  • Recently, I have just gotten over a bad bout of Plantar Fasciitis in my right foot. As a result, I now wear custom orthotics in both shoes. However, there is a new pain I am experiencing in my left foot. I can only describe it as intense burning all along the entirety of my foot, and it feels like I am stepping on knives every time my foot makes contact with the ground. Now, this pain isn't 24/7. I only get it when I have been running fairly fast after about 5 minutes. It does not go away unless I sit down and rub my foot vigorously, and then I am fine and can run pain free the rest of my workout ( I play lacrosse). Because of my plantar fasciitis, I have had chiropractors, podiatrists, and physical therapists working on both my feet for about 4 months now. Everybody has said that I have uncommonly immobile feet for my age (17), particularly my left foot. The PT said my Achilles tendon does not flex the way it should. Does this have anything to do with it? Please, only valid answers please, no jokes. This pain is quite debilitating and I would like some answers. Thank you!

  • Answer:

My daughter had problems with short tendons in her lower legs, causing pain and discomfort. The doctor advised stretching exercises with the feet, moving them up and down, backwards and forwards. Also my daughter does a lot of walking (she and her husband hike for miles), but not running, as this puts more pressure on the area. It seems to have done the trick and she does not feel the problem these days. The other thing I thought about is whether you might have what is known as a spur in the bone of your heel. Perhaps you could request an X-ray of the area to be on the safe side?

Tough one! My arches collapsed in the Army by the age of twenty. All the pro peeps you mentioned are the best. All that is left is a podiatry school clinic, which might pour all the best brains it has over a tough case like yours- but if you do, try to avoid a resident... Do you warm up? Do you have a foot roller for between your vigorous use episodes? Steroid injections might be next...
