Is anyone a Medical Assistant?

Has anyone taken The CMA(Certified Medical Assistant) or RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) Exam?

  • I graduated with a diploma in Medical Assisting a few years ago. I have decided to take the CMA exam to move further up in my career. I would like to know if any of you have taken either of the exams and what did you do as far as studying and preparing for the exam? Did you use books, study guides, flashcards, ect? Any information will be appreciated! thanks! :)

  • Answer:

I took the CMA exam in New Jersey. To study, I used my text books, my notes from school, and a Medical Assisting study book I borrowed from my local library. As far as I can remember, you cannot take the CMA exam unless you have graduated from an accredited medical assisting program (...a school that has it will mention it every chance they get...) that is recognized by AAMA. For the RMA exam, in addition to graduating from an accredited program, you also need at to have at least 5 years of experience working as a medical assistant. I took my exam about 6 months ago at a testing center on a computer. The questions were a random mix of everything, so no two tests are exactly the same. I had studied pretty much everything, so I think I was well prepared. Check out the websites for the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants) and AMT (American Medical Technologists, the agency in charge of RMA exam) to find out the exact requirements for these exams.
