Is it true that websites know our activity in their?

Do the police constantly monitor people's internet activity?

  • I just read about some 13 year old kid in the paper who got caught by the police for looking at porn on the internet that his parents didn't even know about. The police just turned up at his door because they could see someone had accessed "questionable" websites in the household. So this got me thinking... do the police often check peoples internet activity? and is this down to a regional level?? isn't it an invasion of our privacy?? How strict are the police with internet crimes?? I mean once in a while everyone creates a fake account or comes across some weird websites. What does it take for the police to turn up at your door? I find it kinda of freaky that the police can see all this stuff about you...

  • Answer:

The Police do monitor certain sites this being one of them. It's certain key words that cause a trigger. They are not really interested in fake accounts as they do it themselves. The government are hoping that they will get their snooper's charter through Parliament, but I think there will be a lot of opposition.

No. They monitor specific sites, such as child porn etc, and track back people who visit them. Think about the sheer volume of internet traffic. Their aren't enough police to randomly check who's looking at what. David, they're talking about it, they haven't passed any legislation yet although they probably will.

No not the police, but possibly the government. The police will only monitor the internet in the event that they have reason to believe that you will/have committed a technological crime.

no; that's illegal spying.... duh. =] G'mornin'! How are ya? Are you getting this popo? lol.... new word I learned... ...and unfortunately, looking at porn on-line is not illegal, but I personally think they should nail the guys that do, especially the married ones. oh.

Currently the police can NOT monitor anyones Internet activity without obtaining a warrant first and for that they need just cause . However the UK government / Home secretary Theresa May are currently planning new laws to allow the GCHQ ( Intelligence agency ) to access and monitor Internet calls , emails ( but not the content ) , social networks , and visited websites in real time . As yet this law has not been passed and is under heavy criticism . Source bellow ( or google " UK to monitor Internet " )

No - they can request records of your internet activity from the internet provider if they have reasonable suspicion that you (or someone else using your computer) is up to something illegal. The police can't just decide to randomly look at your internet history unless they have a legitimate reason to. It's possible that finding the kid watching porn was entirely an accident, and that the home computer was actually being monitored for other reasons entirely.
