What are the best Acting Agencies (Film, TV, & Commercial) for NEW talent (Non-Celebrity) in Los Angeles?
-
I'm brand new to the LA area seeking representation in either the Film, Television, or Commercial departments. While I am a young, attractive black actor, I am not a celebrity so please don't list any referral exclusive or big name agencies (Paradigm, WME...) that will wipe their *** with my resume and headshot. At the same time, please only post reputable agencies with creditable work. I've already played the scam game and lost alot of money on jerks selling a dream and eventually wasting my time and crushing my spirit. But I can't be stopped, so with that said, any help would be greatly appreciated, and as any actor knows, rejection is a part of the game, so the more agencies the merrier! Gold star for contact info!!!

Answer:
Do a search for that question in the Actors Access message board: LOTS of different opinions; a couple of comprehensive lists from two BSW writers. Good luck in your quest: you seem to know what to look for. PS: SAG Franchised don't mean bupkiss anymore = many TOP agencies are no longer franchised.

Look for lists of genuine agents in your union publications - but don't bother applying at all unless your resume is really impressive, showing several years training at a good, accredited acting school and a long list of stage plays and short films in which you've taken leading roles. It can take years to get a good agent - just keep building up your resume with more and more training and more experience. Good luck!

you can find lists of legit agencies on SAG'S web site. anyone you can get that takes people your age will be ok to start. the name and size of the agency is not an indication of what kind of auditions they can get you on. all agents in LA get their audition info. from the same place, so one is not usually going to know something the others don't. if your right for a part, any agent in LA can get you on it. agents only get you on auditions, they don't get you work. you have to land the work through your audition. you don't audition well or you blow an audition, you don't get work, no matter who your agent is. you aren't going to get a job based on who got you on the audition.
