Why is the scope of practice important for nurses?

Cheap scope on a .17HMR?

  • I just bought A Cheap $200 Savage .17 just to do some plinking/ cheap <100 yard practice with. I need a scope and i really don't want to spend much more than $130 on a scope. I will not be hunting with this rifle. (that's reserved for my .308 with a nikon scope) so the scope wont be banged around just range use with a .17 rimfire. I would never put a cheap scope on any rifle that has strong recoil. I saw this scope @ sportsman guide It got good reviews and a good price, The 10-40X might be a little much for what i need but i could survive. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/aim-sports-10-40x56-mm-extreme-tactical-scope.aspx?a=941344 Opinions anyone?

  • Answer:

If plinking is what you are going to do then get a Tasco 4X and be done with it. Why would anyone want a cheap scope? Inexpensive scope = poor performance.

I hope you live near me. After you put a cheap scope on that rifle and can't hit anything with it you will blame the rifle and sell it cheap. Then someone who knows better will buy it, put a good scope on it and have a good rifle for next to nothing. Better to put a $1000 scope on a $100 rifle than a $100 scope on a $1000 rifle.

A 10x minimum scope? That's borderline useless, for any purpose. More telling, this particular scope sells for about $120. For a 10-40x. That leads me to believe that it is utter junk. Get a 2-7x Bushnell and be done with it. That scope will do everything you need, especially for shots of less than 100 yards. And if you think $200 is cheap for a gun, I wish I had your budget.

That's not really a cheap gun to plink with when shells are around 15 clams for 50 get a 3-9 or 2-10

$130 will buy plenty of quality. consider a Weaver, Redfield, Bushnell, Centerpoint, Nikko-Sterling, BSA or Barska. Try to avoid buying any sub-$450 scope that has the words" extreme", "tactical", or "sniper" in it. That pretty much red flags it as a cheap crappy scope for airsofters or toy guns. if the scope cost at least $450 or is made by a reputable maker such as Zwiess, Nikon, Nightforce, etc, then it wouldn't have those stupid sales-booster words anyway. serious scope makers never call their scopes a "sniper" or "extreme tactical". the word Tactical is often used, but that just means it's made for LE use. I have a nice $80 Centerpoint 4-16x40mm mil dot on my .22LR. it was made for centerfire hunting, and I used it for rimfire target practice & hunting. 16X is great for hunting at about 300 meters. 16X is great for target shooting under 100 meters, and it doubles as a spotting scope too. I'd stick to local stores with Barska & BSA, they're made in china by people who have no concept of quality control. quality varies from excellent to extremely shoddy, some are rock solid and will work flawlessly and others will break in 20 rounds. I had an experience like that with BSA 3-9x40mm RGB scope, the first two broke with 15 shots of 223. the third lasted a long time. but the BSA was a temp scope while I was saving up for a great one ($380 Millet 4-16x50mm mil dot IR) so that hardly mattered to me. I was just taking advantage of the store's 90 day return policy. I've used Barska Scopes just about anything else- their 4x and 3-9x scopes are rock solid even though light quality isn't that great. I have one on my .500 S&W Magnum rifle. a 3-9x. I have a Redfield 3-9x40mm for my other .22LR, it's modded to be the ultimate survival rifle. Redfield's a good scope. solid & of decent quality. Anyway, In my opinion quality is like this: 1, Weaver - clear as Nikon and excellent craftsmanship 2, Redfield - almost as clear as Nikon and excellent craftsmanship, Made in USA 3, Bushnell - noticeable color change & hazy at 12X+ but still good quality. 4, Centerpoint - a scope often found at Walmart. rock solid and works well, but noticeable color change and poor low light performance. Also IR feature is absolutely useless. 5, Nikko-Sterling - noticeable color change & hazy at 10X+ but still decent quality. 5, Barska - noticeable color change & hazy at 10X+ but still decent quality. 6, BSA - noticeable color change & hazy at 6X+, and local of QC. might take a few tries to get a decent one. Tries as in trips back to the store for exchange.
