Tips on memorizing things easily?

Tips on memorizing guitar songs? Chord progressions? Please? Thanks!?

  • So I'm an 18 year old girl, who loves to sing. And just recently I've been practicing and playing guitar in the last three weeks. And I really want to try out for The Voice next season, I sadly missed this years auditions because my parents wouldn't take me to them because they were to far. But I really look up to Adam Levigne and Christina Aguilera. I've been listening to her since I was 5. And I know that Adam plays the guitar at a lot of his shows. And I'm learning guitar right now as I said. And I'm learning Grenade by Bruno Mars on my own and I'm picking it up really quickly, and I'm thinking of entering a few local "teen idol"/ talent shows, and singing and playing guitar at the same time just for practice and such. Just to make sure I can actually do it live, because I think it's different than just sitting in your room playing for your friends right? Well I was also wondering if I would get a better shot at getting into the Voice if I learned the guitar and played it during the audition. Because I think it was last February and I auditioned for America's Got Talent, and I didn't get in. I sang REALLY WELL though. And I still don't know why, but I know they only call you if they want you. And I obviously didn't get picked for this season. But I would also be 19 by the next round of The Voice auditions. I was also wondering something, how do you walk in with your guitar for an audition do you have to have a gig bag for that. Or can you just wear you guitar strap and walk in. Because I don't want to look like a complete idiot. So I want to know all the right things to do for the audition to be prepared. And I feel like I should learn a couple songs on guitar just to show them something different because they said to memorize a total of 5 songs. 2 songs for the first round, and 3 for the call backs. How am I supposed to memorize all the chord progressions and stuff? I know the verses for Grenade, but the choruses are a little tricky for me to memorize. Any tips on memorizing songs? Since I'm still a beginner. And what other songs would be good for an auditions song? Or is Grenade to overdone now for auditions? Thanks!

  • Answer:

well i'm 14 and trying to learn guitar to. first let me recommend some better music, because this generations music sucks, and there isn't really any guitar involved on modern music. it's not even real music its either rap or tech-no with words thrown in. so listen to some Bon Jovi or Motley crew, the eagles, acdc, poison, def leppard, rock music. alright now as for learning guitar, a while ago the game rocksmith came out for ps3 and xbox, and will be out for pc later this year. i've been playing for a couple weeks or so and i've learned a lot of cords on e standard and have learned to play a lot of songs on single note and sweet home alabama by lynyrd skynyrd and i can't get now satisfaction by the rolling stones on chord. so seriously give it a shot it helped me a lot.
