Looking for a new series to start reading...?

Looking for a new series to start reading...preferably along the lines of 1) A kick-*** female protagonist (not necessarily the protagonist), 2) Romantic subtext without it being blatant...[sort of like HP, Artemis Fowl and the Inheritance Series (UNTIL THE ENDING OF THE LATTER)] 3) Told from the perspective of a guy, if possible and 4) Fantasy, Sci-Fi or crime preferably. It'd be nice if you could include a short summary of the series. Stuff I've already read: Hunger Games, HP, Artemis Fowl, Inheritance Series, Alex Rider, Scarpetta, etc. I'm forgetting a lot but... I'm 19, but I'll read anything (young adult to adult) as long as it's good.

I have a trilogy of books to suggest that, literally, sound like EXACTLY, almost to a tee, what you're looking for. The Millennium Trilogy, by Stieg Larsson (the trilogy is made up of three very large books, they're crime/mystery. The focus character is a man named Mikael Blomkvist, and he's basically a journalist. However, the other main character, kinda the protagonist, is a girl named Lisbeth Salander, and she IS the most badass character you'll read about for a very long time, if you ever find another like her. She's flawed, independent, unique, strange, she's a punk, and she's a prodigy. All three of the books in the series hold up perfectly, getting deeper and building momentum. And there is also some romance going on, but it's more along the lines of...sexual, and signs of a love story going on underlying a partnership and friendship, not so much romantic. The books are raw, they're real, dark, graphic, disturbing, funny, and amazing. ) Be warned, though, that the books are very adult books, and not exactly for the faint of heart! These books, to me, rank up with "the Silence of the Lambs" and other acclaimed thrillers. You have to at least look into them! Vivid, believable, real characters who are more like people than characters in a book, amazing plotlines which delve slowly into Lisbeth Salander's past which, I assure you--as you can probably judge by my short description of her already--is well worth it all on its own, I can all but promise that you won't be disappointed. Sorry to sound like a desperate, excited sales-person, but i just get excited when something seems so perfect like this, haha!! Cheers!

I can think of two that seem to meet some of your criteria but both are way more adult than the examples you've given. One is the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher - no consistent female protagonist but girls pop in and out as the series goes on. The second is Elemental Assassin by Jennifer Estep - female protagonist, an assassin as the title would suggest, but it is from her perspective, not a guy's
