  • Need help with Physics homework!!! 10 points best answer please help!! :D? 1.) What quality of a sound is controlled by frequency? 2.)What quality of sound is controlled by amplitude? 3.)Describe what you hear when you experince the Doppler Effect. 4.) What does a guitar player do to play a higher note on a string? 5.) What two factors affect the note played by an air column? 6.)What does a trombone player do to play a lower note? 7.) A boy claps his hands while standing 30 meters away from a cliff. If the speed of sound is 340 m/s, how long does it take for him to hear an echo? 8.) How does a turning fork make a sound? 9.) In what kind of medium can sound waves travel? What happens if there is no medium? 10.) What is the equation for finding the period of a pendulum. What does each letter represent? You don't have to help ok so please no rude answers!! And to those who helped and answer my question thank you very very much.!!! thanks for the help!!!

  • Answer:

    1) pitch (how high or low the sound is) 2) volume (how loud or soft the sound is) 3) A change in frequency due to the source of the sound moving away from you or towards you. For example, when an ambulance speeds towards you, the siren sound seems to get higher pitched as it approaches, and then lower pitched after it has passed. 4) Presses their finger on the fret closer to the hole in the guitar (I don't know the proper name, sorry, I'm not a guitarist!) to make the string that they are strumming shorter. 5) Depends on the speed of sound in air as well as the length and geometry of the air column 6) Slides the slide out to make the instrument longer 7) 30 + 30 =60 340/60 = 5.66666666667 1/5.66666666667 = 0.18s (2 dp) 8)It makes a sound by resonating after it has been struck (it's made of metal). The pitch of the sound it makes depends on the size of the tuning fork. 9)sound can travel through a solid, liquid or gas. It cannot travel through no medium (i.e. a vaccum) so you would not hear the sound. 10) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pendulum (scroll down to where it says period of oscillation, I can't write the correct symbols here) I really hope this helps! I'm not completely sure about number 7, but I think it might be right... And next time, don't leave your homework so late, yeah? :P
