RESIDENT EVIL: SURVIVAL HORROR?

  • Now I am a skeptically die hard fan , and I am saying skeptical because Resident Evil is losing that edge of terror and fascination and becoming more of a conventional game as in like Call of duty. While Call of Duty is a respected game by me, I am not drawn to Resident Evil because o the many ways to kill zombies or even the gameplay. I loved it by then when I used to play it to scare the crap of me (on purpose !!! :D) when I was younger because of that it was a game with atmosphere and suspense as well as great characters and a killer plot. Now, it has morphed into a game that has strayed from it's roots. Survival Horror is rationing, logically flees, terrorizing situations, complex puzzles, and the feeling of being alone in an area where everyone (and thing) has become insane and infected. Veronica X was one of the best games I have ever played, along with Resident Evil 4. But in 4, they attempted to at least add some thrills, but the horror was missing. Anyways, what is your opinion of Resident Evil?

Could not agree more, Gustavo. What separated RE from the rest is it's ability to put you into situations that you could not simply blast your way out of. Ammo was scarce and you had to use your head far more than your trigger finger. It has changed over the years, still enjoyable in my opinion but it has lost that luster. The boss battles are still intense and they usually require some strategy but all of the other scenarios can be won by simply depositing an obscene amount of lead into the infected.

Commercially those generic shooters make more money. If you look at the sales figures for RE, the more they dilute the more money they make.
