What data can I scrape out of online resources about plants without worrying about copyright infringement?

Would this be copyright infringement?

  • I'm making a Quasar game using C++. The idea is totally borrowed from Mass Effect where Shepard gets to play a Quasar game in the Flux casino. Anyway, I'm not using resources from mass effect (images, sounds etc). It's a simple console based game of quasar in which I'm even crediting ME. Besides, it's just a programming portfolio for this university I'm applying to. Would that be okay? Or is it copyright infringement? Of course, I'm not selling this game :P. Nobody would want to buy it.

  • Answer:

Usually, if you aren't making a profit off of something, it isn't a copyright issue. Looking a little deeper though, when you say the idea is borrowed, do you mean like Vanilla Ice borrowing the bass line from Under Pressure, or just an idea that stemmed from the original? Because if it is the latter, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

:) geez you prob have a lot better chance than me getting a job already. I just got my simulation and game development degree on may 10th! I deleted most of my stuff and programming is my worst. I do not think it will be copyright at all. I am more of a level designer such as UDK unreal and stuff but no portfolio :( but i feel like entry level and i am willing to work low low pay. Also never know my chairman said make a free game on iphone (yes i know there are many degrees on making games), if that iphone game hits 100,000 downloads make a 2nd version charge 1 dollar or half it. If it hits 10,000 make a second version and charge 1 dollar. He told me this is great idea. I just do not have a iphone and have no iphone/prog experience. Btw I would put the game online for free like i said on your own site see how many like it, since it is not for sale. Then make a second version if you got 300 visits it may end up 150 dollars if you harge 1 dollar for second version.

over 2400 total in runescape!

if it is im sure you will be asked to take it down they wont file a lawsuit over somthing like that so long as your not trying to make a profit on it lots of people's games have ideas come from video games and nothing ever happens to them

It really depends on how much you take from Mass Effect but I don't believe that you that it could within Copy right infringement....
