How To Crochet Turkish Edging?

Follow-up to previous crochet question...?

  • Not that long ago, I asked for help understanding crochet instructions and received a fantastic response. Thank you so much! I'm finally ready for the last step of my afghan, the edging. Unfortunately, I am confused again. In case the previous rows are relevant, I have included them below, but the really question is related to the edging only. It seems like I'm supposed to edge along row 2, which sounds crazy. And the opposite end is the top, which is not straight like the bottom. I'm wondering how necessary this step really is... Row 1: 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, * sk 3 chs, (sc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in next ch; rep from * across to last 4 chs, sk 3 chs, sc in last ch; ch 3, turn Row 2: 3 dc in base of ch, * sc under ch-3, ch 3, 3 dc under same ch-3; rep from * across, ending by working a sc in turning ch; ch 2, turn Edging: Hold afghan with starting ch end at top. Join yarn with a sc in first ch-3 sp, work Row 2 across; at end, finish off. Rep at opposite end of afghan.

  • Answer:

No it does not say start at row 2 to do the edging-- row 2 is what you work to make the edging. The edging is only at the top and bottom of the afghan. You start the edging at the top corner in the chain 3 space. You work row 2 as you have it written above-- 3dc in base of ch* sc under ch-3,,,,etc all across the top and then you go to the bottom and do the same thing You say the bottom is straight and the top is not. The edging is put on to make the top and bottom match
