In the Dalai Lama scene from Caddyshack, what does the Lama's line imply?
-
When the Dalai Lama says, "when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness", what does he mean by that? And how does Carl misinterpret the Lama?
-
Answer:
Complete awareness... Carl doesn't realize that the Lama stiffed him, but it is still a fair trade. Because even though the Lama knows he will not receive total consciousness on his deathbed, Carl will live the rest of his life looking forward to it. So he's got that going fopr him. Which is nice.
