GCSE Statistics Coursework help?
-
Im going to start my GCSE statistics coursework soon but dont know exactly how or what to do. I have to choose between 3 themes; paper and pencil, money and track and field. Which one do you think is the best one to choose, to find out data n all and get best possible grade in the end of this coursework? I have to write a plan one of these themes. Im thinking of picking track and field where Im suppose to investigate the performance of athletes in track and or field events. What is the exact structure for a plan to get an A*? What would be your suggestion on what I should investigate? On fact any suggession. Ps: please write all details. Im kinda new to doing GCSEs xp. Thanks in advance :).

Answer:
I have no idea how they decide on these things. To be honest, you are looking at track and field as being the best theme for data collection, provided you can ask people to do runs or ask your PE teacher to give you the data. Money is good if you can get the personal data, but it's difficult since much of it is personal and you could come across various data disclosure issues. Pencil and paper makes no sense to me. What they are marking you on is not whether what you do gives you the right answer, but how you go about it. I forgot what the specifics entail but you can talk to your teacher and ask about the marking scheme and what the examiners a looking for. Do note, the teacher will not tell you what to do, but what you should demonstrate in your work. Typical. basic structure includes: What the project is about: an intro and the basic problem What you plan is: what is your hypothesis and why you think that how you are going to go about to test the hypothesis (tests used) how will you know whether the test result will support or reject your hypothesis What is your data: Tables, lists, etc. What is the result: What is the result stat What do you interpret from this What do you conclude from the test Evaluations: What are the limitations of the tests and methods you used What did you get out of this test Where do you think you can improve upon What do you want to find out more about/which aspect of the subject you want to look into next what are you going to do in your next investigation New test: what is your new hypothesis how are you going to go about to test this.... Repeat the cycle 2-3 times. You can do more, but you want to ask what value is added to what you already have done (i.e. how many more marks will it add if you do this) I recommend doing this on computer to save paper and redoing work you already have done (i.e. copy the same passage, but change some of the words). It also keeps your tables and graphs neat. Hope this helps
