Which is the best film academy in London?

Should I go to New York Film Academy? Confused!?!?

  • I'm planning on becoming a director. My guidance counselor is new and he has never graduated someone who wants to pursue a career in the film industry. I'll be the first one. However i have many questions about the film industry. First of all im a junior in high school. My grades are not that good however i still have some time to fix it. I am thinking about becoming a director. Ever since i was a child and got my first camera ive always had interest in the film aand televisi industry. I was thinking about going to The New York Film Academy for a bachelors degree becuase its hands on learning. It seems much smarter to go and start shooting rather than spend time in college with math and other useless subjects. However i did some research and the academy got poor ratings. Although it looks like a good place for filmmaking i am concerned now. Is it better to go a normal college that has a good film school or go directly to the Film Academy? I read that a degree from a nor,al college ill be better for after i graduate. i know that after graduation its all about luck but would a bachelor/masters degree be better in directing from a film academy or a college?

Hello, I am a senior administrator at the New York Film Academy and I just came across your question. I'll try not to be too biased!!! It is true that our Bachelor of Fine Arts program gives you the opportunity to focus intensively on filmmaking (including directing, screenwriting, cinematography and editing) as you make your own films. However, a serious exploration of subjects in the humanities and sciences is also an essential part of the program. Developing your research and analytical skills in the "academic" courses you take will be invaluable to you as a filmmaker. So I don't think it's necessarily an "either/or" question. Film school (and the New York Film Academy) is not for everyone. And it's not the only place you can learn to make films. But if you are considering it and think you want to learn in an intensive hands-on environment, I would invite you to visit our school in Los Angeles at Universal Studios. You can meet students and instructors, sit in on classes, and see for yourself how we approach the subject. If the primary focus on filmmaking of the BFA program is not for you, you can also try an intensive summer program or one-year certificate program and attend a traditional college for your bachelor's degree. Please feel free to contact me at the New York Film Academy if you would like to discuss this further. Best, Michael Young [email protected] 212-674-4300

I am also thinking about joining the film industry, and am a junior in high school like you! A relative of mine actually works for Disney, so they got me VIP passes to see some TV shows being filmed and I got to meet and talk with the cast and crew of the shows. While there, they gave me some really goods tips about going to college and getting a job and all of that. The most important thing they told me is NOT to waste my money on an expensive film school. Going to a film school really only gives you the theory of the process and will almost in no way help you in a real film job. The way you get a job is through connections to people in the industry, so go to a college in California near L.A. that offers a degree in film making, but don't go to an expensive college. By going to a college in Cali, you have a really good chance of meeting with or even working with people in the film industry, so you can form your connections that way. Hope these tips help you out!
