What Is This Movie Called??? I Cannot Find It Anywhere!!!?

• What is the movie where I believe a kid is homeless because he either lost his mom or she died. He lives under a bridge and I think plays a keyboard (piano) at day to make money. I remember an older lady then finds him when he is getting mugged by a black guy for his neclace that I think his mom gave him. The old lady takes him in and she teaches him how to play the piano even better. I think at the end he finds his mom somehow in like a hospital but im not sure. lol im not completely sure its been so long. Im guessing and pretty sure this movie was made in the 90's maybe very late 80's. I have been searching all over for this title but cannot find it. I know the kid is about a pre-teen or teenager and he looks kind of Italian (tan with dark hair). IT IS NOT AUGUST RUSH lol i think that came out in 2007 and is very different. This is an American Made movie! I cannot remember that many details because I have not seen it since I was a little kid, but i remember it being a pretty good movie. I have been searching for this movie for over 10 years and its not even really that uncommon I just remember few details... If anyone even has an idea of what this movie is called I would appreciate the help. Thank You :)
