How can I become a doctor in India and Canada?

What grades in high school are needed to become a doctor in Canada?

  • I was talking to my dad about my grades in high school and he said that if I wanted to become a doctor when I am older I will need to get better grades. My average is 84.5% but he says that I will need at least a 95% average to become a doctor. I was just wondering what average would you need to become a doctor AT MINIMUM.

  • Answer:

Medical school in Canada is a graduate degree. You first need to complete an undergraduate degree -- typically a Bachelors of Science in biology, bio-chemistry, etc. although it would be nearly anything provided you manage to fit some specific courses. When you apply for medical school, they will only be looking at your marks in your undergraduate degree. Selection criteria is extremely high. Your high school marks really don't matter, nor is your current grades necessarily representative of what you may get during your undergraduate degree. If you aren't getting top marks in high school -- particularly in math, sciences, etc. -- then you should seriously consider the possibility that you may not improve your marks in university in order to then qualify for medical school. Typically, you will also want to enroll in a good university, challenging programs, and score near the top of your class in order to have a good chance of getting in medical school.
