How to write a good narrative essay?

How can you write a personal narrative essay about a war zone when you have never been to one?

  • I have to write this for a journalism class and have to address: how you would address the various social, cultural, and governmental challenges of being an “outsider” attempting to gain information from sources in your selected area of the world. Consider each area—social, cultural, and governmental—separately. Spend time analyzing the setting and discussing the obstacles you would encounter as you met with a person, group of people, or organization within each of the areas mentioned above. We are allowed to use any conflict but I am at a loss because to be descriptive I would perfer to write about some place I have actually been. Any Idea?

    As I understand this, you can read about any conflict and write about it from the journalist perspective, but objectively. And whta you need for this? You need few historical descriptions of conflicts. And maybe some personal memories from other people. That gonna help you. This reminds me of a routine by the comedian Franklyn Ajaye. Describing his experience in a Black Studies class in college, he said he chose to write his term paper on "my childhood in the ghetto," which, he said, "was really hard, 'cause I'd never been there. So I read a couple of Time Magazines...." But there's a grain of seriousness in there.
