They do. Its called a bone marrow transplant. Well, technically bone marrow transplant is the layman's term. It is called a hematopoetic stem cell transplant, and can use stem cells from marrow, peripheral blood or cord blood. It is succesful at treating a wide range of diseases that effect the blood, marrow, or autoimmune systems. It is also incredibly dangerous, and comes with a plethora of short and long term side effects and risks. And yes, Lisa Ray had a bone marrow transplant using her own stem cells. While in remission, her peripheral blood stem cells were harvested, and screened for cancer cells. She went through the chemo and radiation the transplant requires. But instead of using a donor, they gave her own stem cells back to her. Its called an autologous stem cell transplant. It is safer than using a donor as far as rejection issues are concerned.
