How do I become an animal rescuer?

What courses in College do you have to take to become and animal rescuer?

  • Hello. I am a 15 year old girl who would like to become an Animal Rescuer. A lot of people say I would make more money curing the animals, but that's not what I want to do. So I just wanted to know what Majors, G.E.D's, or other things do you have to have from college to become one. And if they are the same as a Veterinarian, then please tell me what they are. Thank You.

    If you want to work for an organization such as the SPCA, call that organization or pay them a visit and ask exactly what the qualifications are for the job. If you are looking to start an animal rescue, I'd recommend some animal science and business classes. Take some of the classes that would be recommended for someone looking into veterinary medicine, and business and management classes. This will prepare you for both the animal aspect, and the business aspect of running a rescue properly, as opposed to becoming something similar to an animal hoarder.

Animal rescuing is not a career, i would say its a hobby/voluntary work. Its not something you need qualifications for. You do it out of compassion and care for animals at no cost.. Vets in a way rescue animals- by saving lives if u want to think of it that way? Good luck!

You do not have to take college courses to become an animal rescuer(it is good though that you're going to college!) You should consider becoming a veterinarian:) I know a lot of people who run their own home based animal rescues. They did not have to have any special training. Just love, money and the drive to do it. I also know people who have 501k status.
