Does anyone own a Coton de Tulear?

  • I have a couple questions about these dogs. I'm looking to buy a Coton de tulear puppy. I live in California, but was only able to find two breeders here. 1. Can you please name some California Coton breeders? 2. Do any healthy Coton puppies cost under $2000? I did find some for $600-$1,000 but they didn't look as cute as the more expensive ones. What's the difference? 3. Should I buy from a different state and have it shipped? I've heard plane flights aren't good for puppies, is this true? Thank you to anyone who can answer any of these questions! :)

You can go to the Breeders of Excellence website: http://royalcotondetulearbreeders.com/ and also you can visit the UKC's Coton Club: http://www.americancotons.com and find excellent Coton breeders. 2. Sometimes, but most well bred Cotons are going to run you from around $1,800 - $2,300. The difference is usually the Cotons that range from $600 - $1,000 are from puppy mills and/or backyard breeders who do not do health testing of their breeding stock. 3. Many breeders have couriers (people who bring the puppy on the airplane with them) who will deliver the puppy to the nearest large airport close to you. So you are not confined to your home state for shopping. 4. You are welcome. Happy to be of service to you.

1. Breeder directory from the national club http://www.usactc.org/directory.shtml 2. Depends on the breeder. I so wouldn't expect a well bred pet pup for this breed to be under a grand. As for the difference - crap stock vs quality breeding stock. 3. No its not true. Puppies are shipped cross country and state everyday and come through it fine. The only real difference is the condition the pup is in BEFORE it ships. If you can't find what you want in state, shipping is perfectly acceptable.
