Why won't my computer speakers work on my TV?

Headphones/Alternate speakers dont work when laptop is connected to TV?

  • I have a 52' flatscreen tv with VGA support. When I connected my laptop to it and configured it to work properly I couldnt use my headphone or alternate speakers in the jack of the laptop. The jack DOES work when not connected to the tv but when it is and I plug the headphones (which work) into the jack, it plays the audio via the headphones or other speakers for JUST under a second and then plays everything via the laptops built in speakers. I currently have my video connection set up as a 'projector' because all the other settings wont load the resolution properly on the tv (makes it look like im zoomed in and such.) It aint no HUGE deal, my speakers have alright quality but when im playing my PC games on a giant 52' and listening to them via these tiny li'l speakers . . . just sucks lol. Any ideas folks (prefer them to be simplified as im not the smartest computer person)

  • Answer:

Disable your computers internal speakers and set the external source as your primary, to do this, right click on your desktop then go to sounds. you may have to restart your computer. I hope this helps

I use my computer as a monitor sometimes. I happened to find a cord in my house that i use for audio. It has the yellow and white TV audio parts and on the other end there is a headphone jack. it only works for me if a tie it at an angle onto the VGA cord.
