Best Free Antivirus for Windows 7?

What is the best, free antivirus software for Windows 7 64-bit?

  • I've tryed AVG 2012, it ruined my computer causing restart loops and lag. Now it's gone and I need a free, good quality antivirus program for the Windows 7 64-bit. I want it to not cause lag and work smoothly. Can somebody recommend me some free antivirus softwares?

    It is possible that the reason for the 'restart loops' you experienced with AVG is because you have a malware infection that is interfering with the software. Its certainly worth looking into. Restart windows in safe mode with networking, download and install Malwarebytes. Run a full system scan from within safe mode. I personally have used AVG and found it to be a very stable AV. You can also try Avast! free. Hope this helps.

windows defender/essentials is pretty good, you will hardly know it's even there http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials or Avast http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download you should have tried AVG free edition, the 2012 version is the pay for one and will have alots of extra's that most people dont really need.
