Do you think I will get an ultrasound?

Finding out sex at 16 week ultrasound...?

  • I will be 16 weeks pregnant next Sunday....I am going to an ultrasound facility (not associated with my doctor....their purpose is to tell moms the sex of their baby, or if you already know the sex, you can get 3d or 4d ultrasounds and they have all kinda cool things there...teddy's that will play your baby's heartbeat....cds with the session of your baby on there to watch...stuff like that)...anyway, if you want to find out the sex of your baby, you can go as early as 15 weeks...they say if they can't determine the sex that early, you can go back for free a week later (as many times as needed to determine the sex)...anyway....it sounded great, but when I talked to the lady I asked her if it would be any less accurate if I go that early...she said something like, "It doesn't matter when you come, if the technician is not completely sure she will just have you come back...when they tell you the sex of the baby, like 9 out of 10 times they are 100% sure"....and I'm thinking "9 out of 10 times?! Was that supposed to ease my mind!?" So anyway, I know that they say they can never 100% know for sure, but do you think it's AS accurate as a 20 week ultrasound? They say it is, but I want others opinions. Basically, I WANT the ultrasound either way because I can't wait for find out...but this is my last child and I have so much girl and boy stuff in my basement and we are moving June 1 and I want to get rid of the stuff we don't need...do you think it's safe to assume they are right whatever they say and get rid of what I won't need and announce to the world the sex of the baby...or no? I am more looking for people who have HAD ultrasounds that early and if they were right or not...I don't need to know what the internet says I have read too many things all over the internet that completely contradict each other...thank you

    I had an ultrasound at a place like this at 14w5d and they said boy. im still having a boy. They are accurate.

I've gone for four different kids so far, and each time, even I could see what was what. I found out at 15 weeks with the first, 16 weeks with second, and can't remember with the third and fourth. By then, I just sort of knew, so when I went to the ultrasounds, I had already bought stuff for little girls. If you are watching while they check, you just look for a dark spot around baby's bottom for a girl, and well, for a boy, it's sort of obvious, isn't it? The trick is for baby to cooperate. IF they are being modest then you'll have to go back again. I knew a lady who had to have five ultrasounds to find out what she was having because baby kept crossing HIS legs:)

If they see it on a 4d ultrasound it's 100%.

It's not as accurate as a 20 week scan. At 15 and 16 weeks, the genitalia are just starting to develop more. Unless it's definitely a penis sticking out, a good sonographer or doctor will not say with 100% certainty what the sex is at that point. That's why they tell you to wait til you're 20 weeks when the baby has grown more. I would say don't assume they're right until you get your 20 week scan. I actually had a patient that was told the wrong thing at 16 weeks and didn't find out til she was 28 weeks that the sonographer was wrong and she had already had her baby shower.
