Are women accepted in animation and game design?

Are most commercial art industries (gaming, animation, illustration) located in New York or California?

• I've pretty much accepted that if I want a job in the creative industry, at some point I'll have to move from out of the Midwest. When I browse through job sites and forums, it looks like a lot of commercial art jobs I'm interested in are located in either NYC or LA. It would be more convenient for me to move to NYC since I have family up there, but if most companies are in Cali, it won't be that convenient in the end. I have background in illustration, sequential art (comics, storyboarding), game design, and I'll be transferring to a different college in the coming year or so where I'll be studying a little bit of animation. So when it comes to animation, gaming, and comic jobs- which state has the most companies in these fields and the most job opportunities?
