Why Do Dogs Eat Poop?

• I am asking this, because my neighbor's dog likes to come over and visit us a lot. He is a chocolate Labrador-Pit Bull Mix; we play with him, and basically treat him like our own. Well, just recently, we let our cat out to play, and he used the bathroom in the yard. Before my sister could pick it up with the pooper scooper, our neighbor's dog ate our cat's poop. Additionally, just a few days ago, we saw him eating his own poop. Why is he doing that? Thanks for the answers.

  Its called Coprophagia, its actually quite common, but disgusting, it can be for many reasons that a dogs eats its own poo or that of another dog or animal (most dogs eat other animal faeces... like horse and cattle manure ect) sometimes its because they are getting something out of it that they are not getting from their food, but usually its just a habit, you can buy certain food to feed them that will put them off the smell of their faecal matter, or just pick up before they get the chance to eat it... dont worry there are lots of dogs that do this... i know its gross but its normal for some dogs, maybe ask a vet what you can use to stop your dog doing it?
