How to connect a printer?

How do I connect my wired desktop to my wireless printer?

  • Is there any way to connect my printer by USB to my wireless router which in turn would connect wirelessly to my printer? So here's the situation. I have a single wireless router, one printer, multiple laptops, and two desktops. I just recently obtained the second desktop and now I need to connect it to my printer. The first desktop is connected to the printer directly by USB. The printer is also connected wirelessly to my wireless router and my laptops are able to wirelessly connect to the printer via this wireless router. (Sorry for the repetition but I need to make clear the setup). So now if you've got an image of my setup in your head you can see my problem. I obviously can't connect the second desktop directly by USB. The only options I have left are with the wireless router but I'm at a loss. Is there any way to connect computer to wireless router (by USB) and then have this connection transmitted wirelessly to my printer (which is already wirelessly connected to the router)? Thanks in advance to anyone who can take the time to read this long question and answer it.

  • Answer:

As long as your second desktop computer is connected to the router, then you have access to the printer as well. You can simply set it up on your second desktop computer like you have it setup on your laptop computers, it doesn't matter that the computer is not wireless, just that it's connected to the router. If the printer is actually wireless, then the printer will have an IP address on the network that the laptop computers use which can also be used by the desktop. You can also setup printer sharing from the first desktop computer to allow the second desktop to access it through the first desktop computer, but the wireless setup would be much better and allow you to print without having to have the first computer On all the time in order for the second computer to print using the print sharing method.
