Laptop battery plugged and not charging?
-
I have a Dell studio 1737 its about 3 years old i have been having some charging issues for a while now i bought a new battery and ac/power adapter from dell i even took it in to a repair shop and was told that the power port was fried and would need to replace it for $260. so i bought the replacement piece opened up my laptop to find the port and chip it is attached to, to look like it was in perfect shape but i replaced it anyway put my laptop back together just to have the same damn problem i never get any kind of error message like cant detect charger or battery, just a prompt that my battery is critically low, now i have both the battery and ac/power adapter in when the battery had a charge it powered on and ran just fine but now that it wont charge if i remove the battery it shows that the ac/power adapter is plugged in but when i reattach the battery it no longer shows that the ac/power adapter is plugged in please can anyone help this is driving me crazy also the battery light is blinking red and i have tried many times to remove both battery and ac/power adapter and have had no luck i have even gone into the system stetting and checked for updates for both parts and no my power port does not get hot neither does any other part of the laptop

Answer:
The simple test of a laptop's power system is to plug it in without a battery. The fact that it is working on AC power means that the charger and the power port are working. The fact that your battery is three years old also tells me that you likely have a dead battery that needs replacing. They are only rated for a certain amount of charge/drain cycles and in three years the battery is at its end. Replace the battery and that should take care of the problem. @additional - Next time try breaking your question into mini-paragraphs so it's not one long run-on that's hard to read. Did you buy the battery before or after you had the power port replaced/repaired? It is possible that if there was something wrong with the charging circuit that you may have fried the circuitry in the battery and would prevent the battery from charging. Also are you certain that the battery you purchased was new? Many disreputable places sell a battery as new when it is in reality a used battery pulled from a junked system. Even if the battery was new, there is still the possibility that the battery was defective. It sucks but it happens. Contact the company you bought it from and ask them to send a warranty replacement as it never worked for you. In the end if nothing works you have two options. Either send it back to Dell and have them repair it or just shell out the $300 and get a new laptop. With laptops any repair that hits $250 you should consider buying new with the low cost on the units these days. It's no need to buy battery and ac adapter from dell shop to spend such money, relacement battery and ac adapter is also ok.There are many brand of laptop battery and ac adapter sold on amazon at very low price and its quality is nice.I have bought two battery and a adapter from RAVpower for half a year ,it's very nice and it work well now.So replacement laptop battery and adapter is not bad like some people thought. In theory, the original power adapter is relatively better, in fact may can’t feel the difference. The difference between the original and non-original is that the error of the original is very low about the voltage, current and capacity, and compatibility is better than the non-original.So many people think original laptop power adapter is better than non-original one.But if the voltage is normal, there is no problem to use the non-original laptop adapter.
