Can the Alienware M17X play fake games?

Alienware m17x Screen Problems?

  • I've had my Alienware m17x laptop for a few months now, and I have to say that it's working great. However, I turned it on a few days ago, and something was off. Starting with the loading screen for Windows (I'm running Windows 7), the display was sort of "fuzzy" with rainbow-colored lines everywhere. After a bit of research, I found that I can press Fn+F7 to switch dedicated GPUs (or something like that). It does work, but it seems like my games are running a bit slower while using it, and when I switch back, the fuzzy lines appear. Is there a fix for the rainbow lines or am I stuck with a gaming laptop that can't play games?

  • Answer:

it sounds like you have a failed GPU component, this needs to be repaired by Dell if its under warranty or the failed component needs to be replaced. the Intel graphics are built into the motherboard and the Gaming GPU is built onto an MXM board, so you need to replace either the MXM board or the motherboard.
