How can i call a html document from a javascript file?

ok i have a script to change backgrounds in java script the code works if called from html but if i call it from an external javascript it does not work cuz i don't know how to call the html document from javascript example: document.body.background=pathToImg[inc].… the document reads the JS doc not the html how can i fix this? ty

No offense, but I think you're a little confused here. If you include a JavaScript file in your HTML file, the JavaScript functions in that file operate on the HTML document. There is no "JS doc" to work with — a JavaScript file isn't a "document" in that sense. Could you please post the code for both files? Or at least tell us exactly how you're linking the two files together? Remember that the JavaScript file shouldn't have any HTML code in it.
