How to edit the photo?

How do I edit and share a photo with Instagram, that I took and is in my phones gallery?

I can not figure it out....I'm irritated. Please help. I took pictures earlier today with the camera on my phone. The pictures are on my gallery. I open instagram, click the camera icon, chose to pick a photo from my gallery (vs take a photo) I pick the photo. I chose the effect I want to use...Then what do I do???!!?!?!? I have clicked EVERY button on the screen, and nothing saves or shares the photo...I have spent the last hour and a half on the instagram website and nothing covers this....The picture tutorials on the website also show a DIFFERENT process than is possible on my phone considering that none of the buttons look the same than what I have... Thanks for the help...I really wanna use this app.
