What is chargeable income?

What do i put down under the tax section for the FASFA application, if my moms on SSI Disability income?

  • So i'm filling for financial aid for the fall semester of college. I will be a freshman. Anyways I'm having trouble figuring how to fill out the tax part of the application, so i can get the right amount of financial aid. I live with my mom, who currently does not work. She receives a little over 3,000 a month from SSI DISABILITY, different from regular SSI. And so my question is... what do i put down under the tax section for the FASFA application. the questions they ask are listed below... What was your mother's adjusted gross income for 2011? $.00 Wages, salaries, tips, etc. $.00 Interest Income $.00 Dividends $.00 Other taxable income (alimony received, business and farm income, capital gains, pensions, annuities, rents, unemployment compensation, Social Security, Railroad Retirement, and all other taxable income) $.00 IRS-allowable adjustments to income (payment to IRA and Keogh Plans, one-half of self employment tax, self-employed health insurance deduction, interest penalty on early withdrawal of savings, alimony paid, and student loan interest deduction) And just a note. She does not make any other kind of money/income on the side. She is not married. My dad does work, and has a job and a regular income, however he has NO custody over me and i DONT live with him.. Someone PLEASE HELP ME!!!

  • Answer:

Ask your mother about her SSA 1099 for her social security disability payment amounts that you say that she is receiving for this purpose and time in her life. Other taxable income And 3000 X 12 = does equal to 36000 for the year of income from what you say is social security income RIGHT. And have you really read the instructions for each line that is available to you to use for this purpose and time in your life. Check with some one at the school for some face to face assistance to make sure that you do get it done correctly for this purpose. Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 04/21/2012

I'm in a similar situation, my father is on disabled SSI and my mom has to stay home to take care of him. You just put $0! That's as easy as it gets. And under taxes you choose did not file. They may ask you for proof of this, but that would just be a check stub or something from the Social Security office.

financial aid wants to know what sources of support you have if your mother is getting alimony she has to report it, it is taxable more than likely her disability income is not taxable but without seeing the statements she receives for any income it is not possible to say
