How do you get started with modeling?

How to get started with modeling at age 15.?

  • I've just turned 15 years old and i'm about 5'11 almost 6 foot with a slim body composition. I live in the Chicago land area. I've been thinking about focusing this whole summer on getting a modeling career started. Although i know Ford is a big company in the Chicago area i don't know how to even get started. I don't have comp cards or a portfolio so i have no idea what to even do if i go to an open casting call at Ford. I've heard of doing modeling classes on how to teach you the proper way of runway walking but i don't even know where to do those. Any opinions/advice/thoughts?

I would look in the phonebooks for a modeling agent. The agent is very important because they are the ones who set up everything and call companies. Talk with your agent and your parent/guardian in a formal meeting about what companies you'd be interested in modeling for. your agent (hopefully a good one) might be able to get you a casting. If you don't have an agent (but you really really need one!!!!) send a few emails to the companies you wish to model for. Say something about how you were wondering if they were looking for models that are 15, and 5'11, and very slim. Ask if you should send them a portfolio of your professionally taken photos. if they approve, they will most likely ask for a meeting. but don't just go and email a place like Chanel, Gucci or Versace. They want experience. So what i would do is get some modeling classes (find them in a phonebook) and then through the class, you might be able to get a practice shoot somewhere. If the classes don't do that, start out small like abercrombie kids or aeropostale. But i don't think you'll be able to model for abercrombie or hollister because you need to be ATLEAST 17. Also, you need a sense of style. if you think you are a poor dresser or one who is not a TOP NOTCH fashionista, i would flip through some vogue magazines, some style blogs, and some fashion videos, before going to meet a modelling compant=y/modeling class/modeling agent

Forget modeling classes - not only are they a waste of money but they can actually hurt your chances of getting into an agency as most big agencies will not sign anyone who went to modeling school You don't need comp cards or a portfolio to get into an agency. Comp cards are printed by your agency with the agency logo on it. A portfolio contains pictures from jobs you were booked on by your agency The big agencies in Chicago are Ford, Factor Women, BMG and Lily's Talent. The first 3 have open calls, and all 4 accept photo submissions by mail or email. Ford has 4 very specific pictures you need to submit as in Step 3 of their application -- if you do not submit these exact 4 poses your application will be rejected Ford Application http://scouting.fordmodels.com/general/ Ford Open Call info http://scouting.fordmodels.com/opencall/ Factor Women Application http://factorwomen.com/chicago_discovered_submit.aspx Factor open call info http://factorwomen.com/chicago_open_calls.aspx BMG submission/open call info http://www.bmgmodels.com/scout_me.php Lily's Talent submission info http://www.lilystalent.com/index.cfm click on Our Contact then To Submit Whenever possible it's best to go to an Open Call. At an open call you know you are being seen by an actual agent and will be told to your face if you have potential or not, and if there is anything you could do to improve your chances. When you submit photos, you not only don't get feedback but also your photos are usually screened by interns/assistants and maybe 10% of submissions are actually passed on to the agents.
