How to a job interview?

How to get past job interview depression?

  • I applied for a job and had a great first interview for a company that seems perfect. They asked me to take an emotional IQ test and then called me for a second interview. i thought I had it. That second interview has left me completely crushed. The whole thing was based around my test results and it basically started out as "according to the personality test you're bad at this, that, this, and you can't handle this. What do you have to say about that?" I felt like I'd walked into a firing squad and was wondering why I was even called in for a second interview. I tried to explain myself and there were some positive traits from the test at the end of the interview but I feel they had already judged me and the connection was gone. I feel obliterated because I think I blew this job based off of being me. Every advice I hear for failed interviews stress "examine what you think you may have done wrong and learn from it" but the thing I messed up was my personality, not my interview style or my dress, etc. I don't know how to fix what is essentially being a failure as a person. It was a teller position at a bank and I basically failed in all aspects of being a customer service-oriented person but my current job is a waitress so all I do is customer service and I thought I had aced that test as a result. I have to work tonight and I just wish I could stay home and hide. After that interview, I just feel like I'm no good and am struggling to find a way to cope, pick myself up and dust myself off.

  • Answer:

Firstly you MUST NOT beat yourself up over this, you ARE NOT a failure as a person! You were analysed by a computer program written by some spotty bank nerd. From the way you've written your experience, you are a well balanced and rounded person. In my job role I interview and hire people for my company. I would never ever let a program dictate who I employed. The fact you got to the second interview would indicate that you were liked by the human panel that interviewed you the first time round but were rejected by a program the second time. Shake the dust off your feet and thank goodness you didn't get employed by them, if they're using a program to measure people's worth without actually trying them out first then I bet all manner of frustrating things are going in inside the company! Now go and find a job with a sensible company and don't beat yourself up over it, it's them at fault not you ;0)
