Did Audrey Hepburn make a difference to the world?

Am I the only one who finds Audrey Hepburn (and the fandom around her) extremely annoying?

  • I thought she was rather plain, boyish, nothing special. She couldn't sing and her acting was sub-par. (And this is coming from a girl who used to worship Old Hollywood since the age of 6, 15 now) Her "style" was basically the same as Twiggy, Jackie O, etc. Nothing original.. I understand she went through a lot in her life being with the Dutch resistance and all, but I don't think that warrants being an "icon". In fact, I have noticed that as I grow older I find Old Hollywood actresses less appealing and more overrated. Everyone goes on and on about how "perfect", "classy", and "beautiful" these women were. I'm guessing they're forgetting the fact that cameras back then weren't all too good, and they had piles of make-up on like the celebs of today. I understand how girls can be swept up by the "Oh, I'm a lady!" thing, but at points it makes me want to gag. A lot of these women smoked, drank, swore (in fact, I have read a few articles about Julie Andrews that out-right called her a *****) and did every other damn thing women do today. The only difference is it was less acceptable back then. What do you think? Why in the WORLD do people love Audrey Hepburn so much? Why are actresses of her time and back romanticized so much? P.S.- If you're going to tell me "She was classy and beautiful, she was a great actress, blah, blah, blah" don't even bother. Don't bother with the "Your juz JELLOUS" comments either, unless you want to give me a good laugh. Another thought: I don't understand why I ever thought drooling over any actress was acceptable. Whether you're panting over Audrey Hepburn or Angelina Jolie, it's pathetic and a waste of one's precious life. I've had people jump at my throat for saying I don't like her, as if it was their mother I was referring to! It's amazing because a lot of these people (girls) would be the first to call their mothers a c*nt. Why the hell should some dead actress receive better treatment that anyone else on this Earth? (regardless of the charity work she did, how many ordinary people have done that, receiving ZERO recognition? charity is expected of celebs, that's usually why they do it)

I kind of agree. I love Audrey Hepburn because not only is she absolutely stunning but she has a beautiful soul as well - but so do many other people. People act like she's the only one like that and that's why I think she's a little overrated. I don't think there's anything wrong if people want to "drool" over her, as you say, because she's a good role model. I mean, it's better than looking up to Snookie. But most people will always want a role model, and it's human nature to have an idol and want to be like someone else. Audrey is the perfect role model so that's why people love her so much. @ answerer above: is there something wrong with looking Asian?
