How much does it cost to get a kitten?

  • My roommate and I want a kitten (were talking like weeks old... the oldest a month...) but if we have to get the kitten spaded or neutered and possibly have the kitten declawed we are having a hard time coming up with the cost… we both have never really had a baby kitten, but before we go looking/seeking for one that we fall in love with we need to know the costs… So here are some questions if anyone cares to answer… where is the best place to buy or get a baby kitten( a kitten less than 6 months old) how much will it cost if we need to get the kitten spaded or neutered and possibly have the kitten declawed? AROUND how much do the first vet visit cost with shots and everything? After all the other costs that I just discussed, AROUND how much will it cost to have a kitten PER MONTH????

  • Answer:

Well idk where ur from but decawling is illegal but spca places normally spay or nu. For around 50$ if u look on craigslist there is always a ton of free kittens and as for food a month if u buy a 25 pound bag it will last alot longer but u should always use some canned food if under a month mix it in with some dry half a can cheap canned food btw so a monteith canned and dry food at walmart is under 20$ ;3 good luck hope I helped

A 4-week old kitten still needs to be nursing on mom. They are usually weaned around 6 to 7 weeks. The best thing you can do is to contact a local animal rescue. You can find one by going to PetFinder.com or adoptapet.com and entering your zip code. A reputable rescue will take care of its initial shots and either already spay/neuter a kitty or provide means to have it done. You will pay the rescue an adoption fee. The rescue I'm with will spay/neuter a kitten when it is 2 lbs. (about 8-9 weeks old), as well as combo test to check for FIV/FeLV (kitty AIDS), vaccinate against 5 diseases, administer worming medicine and apply flea meds if necessary. Our adoption fee is $120. These services would cost several hundred dollars at most vets. You also mentioned getting a kitten declawed. PLEASE NEVER DO IT! Declawing is a very painful, cruel thing to do to a kitty and can cause behavioral problems. Google it. DON'T DO IT! Also, it will probably cost around $300-$400. A kitten needs three initial shots, three weeks apart which includes distemper vaccine. Costs for vet services vary wildly depending on the vet and your location. Honestly, if your budget is so tight that you would find it difficult to pay for food/litter/vet bills, you should wait. If you want to interact with kittens and not have the financial burden, volunteer for a rescue group or your local animal shelter! One last note, if you do decide to adopt, you and your roommate need to discuss what will happen to the kitty if you are no longer roommates. You're talking about a 15-year commitment to this cat. My first roommate and I had trouble deciding who got the artwork and who got the cooler that we bought together! ;)

some ware around 20.00 to 50.00 $ per mouth. but that's for food. but remember talking a cat is like getting a baby.

you cuold get one from a shelter they are all so cute and its helping them too it depends on the shelter but most of them desex it before it is sold the most a kitten would cost is 500 dollars because kittens cost more than cats food mabe 15-20 dollard depending on the type of food ,kitty litteraround 10-20 dollard again depending on what brand and type its not much but i hope that some of it was helpfull

Just look on craigslist, lots of people are just giving away kittens. To spade $45-100, neuter $25-35, will cost and possibly declaw will cost +$200. We have two adult cats so food runs around +$20 each month. For just one cat it will probably be a lot less.

Adopting isn't free you get to spend money on it's food and medical bills but buying one is another story which will cost you more money. People often buy kittens because of their breed but if you just want a cute domestic kitten then you can adopt one. The costs vary from different countries but I got my kitten for 150$ and that includes food, litterbox, sand and a scratching post excluding the medical shots he needed. If you don't get a scratching post then you are in serious trouble of destroyed stuff mostly furniture. My money was worth it, here's my kitten around at 8 week old (http://i.imgur.com/Hh770.jpg) and he's nearly 5 months now and about the vet it varies from state and country, I don't understand why America has insane vet bills but here in south-east asia it's a different story but the same professional quality you'd see from America as well.
