If I'm allergic to cats will I be allergic to bunnies too?

Im thinking of getting 2 new cats but also have an old timid one, will it be ok?

  • i also have a parrot. the cats im thinking of getting are british shorthairs which i have always loved and wanted. the worry i have is for my othr cat and parrot. my cat is 13 years old and hes always been alone and the two cats im thinking of getting are both boys. their current owner said that one of them goes mad if he sees another cat so im a bit worried. as they are both big cats.i wouldnt like anything to happen to my cat or parrot.i really dont know what to do. do you think they would get used to one another?the new cats are 2 years old. also would i need to get them seperate litter trays as i dont think mine would like to share. any advice would help thank you x

Seriously don't at 13 your cat is too old to adjust to having other cats around and if 1 of the new one's goes mad if it see's another cat that tells me that he is extremely territorial and is very unlikely to accept your current cat as alpha cat and that will lead to fights which won't end well and could end in the death of at least one of the cats. On the litter tray thing how are you going to make sure the new cats don't use your old cats it's impossible. If you really want to get new cats before your old cat dies go for kittens there's much less chance of problems with kittens. Also cats from different litters can get on I have 2 1 year olds and a 3 year old and they love each other and play with each other all the time and they're all males it's the 6 year old female that doesn't like the other cats

seperate them unless you want a cat fight... cats dont really get along with eachother . they will often have a fight for territory trust me my friend has two cats and they always fight for the good places to sleep and places to do stuff

If the owner is telling you that one of them goes "Mad" when he sees another cat, that's a red flag. You have a responsibility to the cat you already own before any other cat. Take care of him first. If you really want to get more cats, find ones that are docile and easy going with others.

No, do not do this to your poor old cat. Cats are not social creatures, they don't naturally live in un-related groups. All you will be doing is stressing your poor cat out by invading his territory with two strangers. He will not enjoy it, he won't be friends with the newcomers, and you may end up with cat fights on your hands, particularly since one of the potential newcomers is known to be aggressive towards other cats. This would be a really cruel thing to do to your existing cat, especially as he has always been alone and at his advanced age. I can understand your desire for these new cats, but really it would be kinder to let your existing cat live out his life alone, and then start again when he's gone. At 13 you probably aren't going to have to wait more than 2-3 years :(
