Worth it to get digital audio coax to optical converter?
-
I got a surround sound speaker system and it takes optical digital audio or RCA left/right analog. My tv only does coax digital audio, not optical. I have an optical cable that came with the speakers. Is it worth it to get a coax digital cable and a coax to optical converter to use my surround sound via digital audio instead of the RCA left/right cables?

Answer:
That depends entirely on whether there's any terrestrial TV channels broadcasting in Dolby Digital 5.1 in your country and if so, can your surround system decode DD5.1? If the answer to either of those questions is no then stick with the red and white phonos. The only other justification is that you are using the TV as a HDMI connection hub and the other sources are sending DD5.1 via HDMI to the TV.
