The laptop was not switching on and occasionally switching itself off?

Why is my laptop's audio switching from headphone to speaker?

• I have a Dell Inspiron laptop, less than a year old, and over the past 6 or 7 months it's been doing something odd. I will have a pair of headphones plugged into the headphone jack, and they will be working fine when out of nowhere the audio stops playing through the headphones and starts playing through the laptop's speakers. It doesn't happen at any particular time, or after I've done anything specific, if just happens randomly. Sometimes there are days or weeks even between when it happens. It happens with all the headphones I have tried. I have never dropped my laptop or spilled anything on it, and I have up to date antivirus software. This is an almost brand new laptop, so can anybody tell me why I am having this problem?

  Probably some kind of short in the sound card. Unfortunately there is really not much you can do to fix it since its a laptop
